Cyber Security Awareness Month – October 2022

It’s October, and fall is setting in all around us. Perhaps you’ve got pumpkin-spiced lattes, football, or apple picking on your mind. Something else that should be on your mind is Cyber Security Awareness Month. That’s right. Every October, we recognize the importance of cyber security in our lives. In our digital world, with threats constantly lurking, it’s essential to take some time to reacquaint ourselves, our employees, and our loved ones with the risks that exist. This month, Athreon will post to its social channels and blog about all things cyber security.

So how did Cyber Security Awareness Month come to be? It was in October 2004 that the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance introduced the first Cyber Security Awareness Month. The intent was to help educate Americans about online cyber risks as our world was becoming increasingly digital and more people were using the Internet. At home and work, more of us spent time online daily. Since its inception, Cyber Security Awareness Month has only grown more critical as the cyber threats online have become more sophisticated, more damaging, and often harder to spot by the untrained eye.

Cyber security isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it type thing. Bad actors evolve their tactics regularly, so we must develop our strategies to maintain a robust security posture. While Athreon celebrates Cyber Security Awareness Month, so do many other organizations like universities, non-profits, and businesses. You should recognize the month as well.
